My Truth: An Official Statement

Published: 11 July 2025 By Billy Coull

This page is my official statement regarding my 2024 conviction under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act. It is essential for me to provide the full and honest context behind the headlines and to own my actions completely.

After a relationship I cherished had ended, I sent messages and images to someone I had loved. It was a period of intense grief and desperation for me, but my actions crossed a clear line. They were unacceptable, and I understand that they caused distress. For that, I am unequivocally sorry.

When confronted with my actions, I did not hide. I pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. I accepted the consequences, which included a Community Payback Order, a period of supervision, and being placed on the Sex Offenders Register. I have fully completed the terms of my sentence.

The sentencing sheriff acknowledged the context of the situation, noting my lack of previous convictions and describing the offence as “If it wasn’t for the sexual nature of the images—including a photo in your underwear, a striptease with the caption ‘Do you want to see more?’, and a more explicit image—it’s unlikely this would have become criminal.” While this provides legal context, it does not diminish the personal responsibility I hold for my actions.

It is crucial for me to state that my offence was not about control, coercion, or grooming. My actions were born from a place of profound personal failure and an inability to manage my own emotional turmoil. This does not excuse them, but it is the truth of the matter.

My purpose in writing this is not to rebrand my past or deny what I did. It is to ensure that my story is not defined solely by its worst moments or by sensationalised labels. I am a person who made a serious mistake, faced the legal consequences, and has learned a painful but invaluable lesson.

My focus now is on my personal growth and on channelling these life experiences into my creative work with honesty and integrity. This statement is a part of that process—a commitment to owning my past as I build my future.
